"Decorative painting" covers all finishes which manipulate
paint to achieve a desired look. A "
faux finish" is actually the
term used to manipulate certain mediums and/or paint to give
the look of a specific real life surface (such as wood and real
marble). However, some true surfaces are recreated which
may not really exist in nature, such as a "
fantasy marble".
Paint glazes (paint mixed with a glaze as to allow more time
for the artist to manipulate) are often used, however, a
"
glaze" can mean many things to the decorative painter. I
have often heard a client say they wanted a glaze on their
walls, but not be able to define it any clearer. "G
lazes" are
used with most decorative painting techniques. Color blends,
ragging, sponging, frottage, some washes, marbles, and many
more finishes all use glazes to achieve their respective looks.
In the pictures below, I will attempt to use generic terms, as to
demonstrate the technique being used. Always remember that
colors may be changed as to reflect your own personal style
and surroundings. So, look at technique (as it is not possible
for me to show all color combinations). Sometimes the samples
fit in perfectly. If not, try to imagine different colors (ones
more suited to your own taste and environment) in place of
the ones shown below. We can always work on color together.
